Efforts against Global Warming

Reducing CO2 emission

CO2 emission amount in fiscal 2006 (Compared to fiscal 1990)

9.8% reduction

  • Trying to absorb the increase in crude steel production with efforts to reduce CO2

Furthermore, we promote forest creation at each mill as part of our CO2 reduction campaign. Various wild animals can be observed near each mill

Energy consumption reduction

Energy consumption in fiscal 2006 (Compared to fiscal 1990)

9.1% reduction

  • Trying to cancel the energy consumption increase factor such as that of manufacturing high-functional steel products with energy-saving efforts
    • Introducing power generation or other facilities operated by using by-product gas and recovering waste heat
    • Using waste plastics and tires

Logistical efforts

  • Making materials and products transportation more logistically efficient
    • Expansion of marine transportation/ Contraction of truck transportation
    • Using larger ships, improving gas mileage of vehicles, etc.

Modal shift rate in fiscal 2006*3

95.6%

※3Modal shift rate: The proportion of the materials and products transported by rail or sea (including ferries) of the total amount transported 500 km or more (definition by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism)
